It was a great day today… the kind of day where some of our favorite clients come in. We laughed and joked, and everyone sang the praises of the miracle of Botox.
My last client was Deb. She has been coming to see me for awhile now. We have treated her frown lines, forehead, and crow’s feet with Botox. We’ve also lifted her cheeks and smoothed under her eyes with filler.
When I saw her sitting in my lobby, I got so excited. She looked amazing and was beaming with confidence.
Deb’s Journey with Hair Restoration
Back in the fall, when I saw Deb for her Botox, I talked to her about a new treatment — Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) for hair restoration.
Deb is around 60 years old and had significantly thinning hair. She shared with me that she had tried everything — pills, creams and even a visit to her dermatologist. When I first met her, Deb was coloring her scalp to camouflage her hair loss, but unfortunately, that wasn’t working.
Her hair loss was significant, and she told me it made an impact on every part of her life, even her job. She couldn’t sit through a customer meeting without worrying about how her hair looked or what the person must be thinking.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Confidence is everything for a woman.
How we feel about ourselves matters, and what we perceive makes all the difference. It almost brought me to tears to see Deb today, sitting there in my lobby with a nice head of hair and radiating confidence.
She is wearing her hair a little bit longer now because, as she puts it, “I can!” We both ran our fingers through her hair and oohed and aahed over her new look. It gave me chills to know that I helped to bring about this profound change.
So… what is PRP hair therapy?
Hair loss can be extremely embarrassing, and it can impact a person on so many levels. Female and male pattern baldness is genetic, and frankly, it can leave you feeling helpless. I have a friend, also around 60 years old, who started wearing wigs because her hair loss was so extreme. We’re so excited to begin her PRP treatments!
Options like prescription drugs and vitamins have only moderate success, but, in most cases, they don’t work at all. Platelet-Rich Plasma therapy offers an all-natural and affordable way to promote new hair growth.
PRP treatment helps with the following:
- Permanently increase blood supply to the hair follicles
- Trigger and maintain the growth phase of the hair follicle
- Increase the hair shaft size
- Decrease hair loss
PRP works by using your body’s own platelets. These platelets contain growth factors which stimulate the regeneration of tissue — in this case, dormant hair follicles.
PRP is currently being used in several other areas of medicine, including dermatology and orthopedics, to help regrow stronger, healthier tissue.
PRP is amazing, it’s all natural, and most importantly, it works. PRP allows your stem cells and growth factors to combine efforts to reverse the shrinking of hair follicles and send dormant hair back into a growth stage.
The result is thickening and regrowth of hair.
Are you a candidate for PRP?
Almost anyone is a candidate for PRP hair treatments.
Even though I am still in my 30s, I have suffered from thinning hair. It’s one of the things I’m most self-conscious about. I use thickening products and tease my hair to try to hide some of the thinning, but to date, I’ve had limited success.
I had my first PRP treatment just this week, and I can’t wait to see the results.
Men are great candidates as well. Many men from ages 30 to 50 become concerned with their thinning hair or have the early signs of balding.
PRP is thus an excellent option for a variety of people:
- Perimenopausal women suffering from hair loss
- Younger women with hair loss secondary to polycystic ovarian disease
- Anyone who wants thicker, healthier hair
What does a PRP treatment look like?
Most clients require four to five treatments spaced one month apart. Then, a maintenance cycle of three to four treatments is needed each year to maintain hair growth. The procedure takes less than 15 minutes and is administered in the comfort of our Murfreesboro office.
Remember that PRP is not a cure. Alopecia or baldness is a genetic medical problem that will always remain. But there is evidence that regular PRP treatments dramatically reduce symptoms, significantly slow down hair loss, and improve hair density.
Deb’s story is why I love what I do!
There was a time that I wasn’t sure if I was making a difference in my profession. I wanted to ensure I was doing something worthwhile.
But after days like today with Deb, I can tell you there’s not a single doubt in my mind that I’m making a positive impact.
There is no greater gift than the gift of confidence. You can’t give a woman anything better than a beautiful, full head of hair when she has suffered from thinning hair. Or, for a woman who has struggled with facial hair, a smooth chin is a BIG DEAL.
On days like today, I am proud, excited, and honored to be working here at the Aesthetic Center of Murfreesboro.
